Since February 1st, 2022, the Department of Environmental and Earth Sciences has housed a sequencing facility, equipped with a centrifuge, a bio-fragment analyzer (Bioptic Inc.), and a MiSeq Illumina system (Illumina Inc.).
The MiSeq system is a DNA sequencing platform that enables cluster generation, amplification, sequencing and data analysis in a single tool. This system takes advantage of Illumina’s sequencing-by-synthesis (SBS) chemistry, a next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology. This NGS system allows for microbial community studies, metagenomic studies and whole-genome sequencing (WGS). The output obtained ranges from 540-610 Mb to 13.2-15 Gb.
The platform is located on the fifth floor of the U1 building in room 5067, and relies on the Microdisat laboratories for sample preparation steps and operates through a fee schedule that can be found at the following link:
