Project Objectives
This project aims to create a standardized methodology for assessing hydrocarbon-contaminated sites through a Joint Research Agreement between ENI and the University of Milano Bicocca. Its primary objective is to develop an advanced conceptual model that integrates hydrogeological, hydrogeochemical, and microbiological data in a multidisciplinary approach.
General description
A significant aspect of this project is the development of a reactive transport model that simulates the behavior of contaminants and includes biodegradative reactions. As a microbiology research group, we will focus on accurately estimating biodegradative rates through laboratory studies, field experimentation (in situ microcosm), and molecular microbiological analyses. The expected outcomes include a robust and reproducible framework applicable to various contaminated environments, enhanced understanding of the interactions among hydrocarbons, microorganisms, and environmental factors, and predictive tools to inform remediation strategies. This collaboration exemplifies the synergy between academic research and industry expertise in addressing critical environmental challenges.
